Sewing Projects in Progress 2

As mentioned in my last post, I have been working on some sewing projects using fabric scraps. Small zipper bags are a good way to use scraps, but I'd never made any because, for some reason*, I thought they would be difficult.

*Probably because I looked at the directions on a commercial pattern. They make the process much more complicated than it needs to be.

But thanks to online tutorials, I discovered that making little zipper bags is actually quite easy.

The real hurdle in making zipper bags for fun is the expense of the zippers. In retail stores, they are about $2 or $3 each. I turned to Amazon and ordered an assortment of 25 zippers for $10.

I got a variety of very nice colors... and two freebies. :D Now I can have fun matching up fabrics with zippers and making lots of little bags!

  1. Those are cute! And such a great price for the zippers. I can't wait to see other combinations you come up with to match them. :)

I have an addiction to small zippered bags, though. It's the real reason joined Ipsy. If I started making them myself, it'd be small zippered bag mayhem and chaos. Like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" but with small zippered bags. Heh heh... small bags nomming on people's ankles would be kind of funny, though. :)

    1. Bags nomming on ankles could happen. Zippers do have teeth, after all. ;)

  2. Bulk zippers... tasty!
You should look up fat quarter projects, if you haven't already-- it'll take you down a deeeep rabbit hole of projects to do with small pieces. Very fun ;)

    1. I have. Jo-Ann recently had quarters on sale for about 79 cents. I bought a few in bright colors, which gives me the chance to use colors I wouldn't normally work with.

  3. Great ideas. I agree about commercial patterns sometimes they do make things way too complicate then they need to be. Great find on the zips. It still amazes me how expensive a decent zip can be. I remember years ago I found black zips I think 4 from a euro shop I came back with a lot zips and the quality was good. For small items I sometimes finds the pdf patterns are great and the instructions are quite simple as well.

    1. Commercial patterns seem to choose the most difficult methods and then overcomplicate the instructions.
In addition to the 25 assorted zippers, I got 25 black ones. At 25 for $10, I couldn't resist!
