Bathroom Rehab: Accessories

Working with a background of light grey, silver, and white, I tried to add lots of black accessories to my bathroom. As is typical for me, I bought several of the items from thrift stores. Here they are with some Halloween friends, all ready for a trip through the dishwasher. :)

After a coat or two of black spray paint, they were ready to assume their duties... which mainly consist of holding stuff. :) Candle holder, tissue box holder, cotton ball holder, cup holder, and beauty product holders. New purchases include a black trash, a black toilet seat...

and this fabulous mouthwash bottle with a black metal stand. I kind of wish I used the blue or green mouthwash because it would look awesome in the bottle!

I also got a black cover for the air vent and some comfy, velvety-feeling black rugs.

I really want a decorative black mirror, but I haven't been able to find one in the right size. :( For now, I'm using a silver mirror which coordinates with the light fixture and faucet.

I showed my black lace shower curtain in my last post, but I didn't give a good explanation of how such a thing works. There are actually three curtains: the black lace, a plain white fabric to give the lace a background, and a vinyl liner which hangs into the tub and performs the shower curtain function of blocking water.

  4. Walmart.com has a couple of really nice black baroque style mirrors. I'm not sure if they are big enough, but the ones I saw at our local store were gorgeous.

    1. Thanks for the tip. I saw the black baroque mirror at Wal-Mart and was super excited to bring it home, thinking it would be perfect. And the overall size of the mirror was indeed perfect... but when I hung it on the wall, the actual mirror part was too low for me to see my face (I'm tall). I couldn't hang it higher because of the light fixture. I was crushed! :(

    1. Thanks so much! I bought it from Amazon and had it delivered to my office. When it arrived, I was all "Yay! My black toilet seat is here!" My coworkers who know me well weren't even surprised. Because of course I would order a black toilet seat. :D

  7. You are a decorating genius! You assembled a perfectly Goth bathroom from items that are 95% non-Goth-specific and readily available in general stores.

  10. Is there any way you could order a mirror cut to the size you want it, and then just add a decorative frame?
Love the little bathroom gadgets, and the bath mat is lush!

    1. Good idea, and yes, it's pretty simple to have a mirror cut to size. With that in mind, I have looked for a decorative frame but haven't found one in the right size. Frames in the correct width of 24" are usually 36" high, and I only have 33" of space. So the quest continues!
