My fourth dress success was made from this purple owls and trees print fabric from Hancock Fabrics.
I used my altered McCall's 6027 for the bodice portion and New Look 6020 for the skirt portion.
This successfully produced the A-line shape I was going for.
As you can see, I've had another haircut. The previous length felt sort of "in between." I was still putting it up, which rather defeated the purpose of having it cut in the first place. And it was still heavy, without much movement. So I had it cut short enough to swing freely and had more layers added.
It feels less like a drastic change than I'd hoped. But short of pulling out the clippers or bleach, this is about as big a change as I could get. I think my real problem is that no matter what I do to my hair, my face still looks the same. :P
You have got the A-line shape just right! It looks brilliant! I love that bright purple colour, and it looks gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteI like the bobbed hair, mine refuses to do that, even if it is short!
I know what you mean about changing your hair but your face looks the same. As a younger girl I would see celebs with amazing haircuts and think if I got them I would look just as brilliant! nooooo. One I kept coming back to was super short Pixie hair like Charlize Theron in The Astronaut's Wife, so pretty and vulnerable, made her eyes look so big. Funnily enough, short hair just makes my whole HEAD look big. Yeah. Your face is lovely though, and I say that in a non-creepy way. Perhaps if you are bored you could experiment with a different makeup style, like cat's eye makeup or false eyelashes or different lipstick. I find that if I do eye makeup or lipstick, it can actually totally transform my face.
Thank you very much! So many of my skirts are full or circular, I wanted to try a simple A-line for a change.
DeleteThanks! Much of the credit goes to my newly discovered hair stylist. She really knows her stuff.
Ha ha! I had a similar experience in school. There was a girl who had struck a certain pose in her school photo which made her look so pretty to me. I tried the same pose in my school photo... unfortunately, my glasses (which were huge, as per the style of 1987) conspired with the angle of the photo to make the entire side of my head look misshapen.
Thank you. I have been experimenting with makeup, with some small success.
The dress (both color and style) is PERFECT on you, and I love the lines of it!! :-) And the necklace is small, but gives it just the right POP.
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite hair problem; mine is light, fine and frizzy, and it won't STAY DOWN, which drives me crazy! Cutting your hair won't "change" your face, but I think the new cut does flatter your face more than the others did. You can also try doing things with your bangs, either growing them longer or styling them differently, and see what that does.
Thank you! It's not clear in the photo, but the pendant is an owl. :)
DeleteYes, I agree the bob is a more flattering cut for my face. Longer bangs would probably look better, but they drive me mad getting into my eyes. I can style them to the side, though.
It looks fantastic and I love the owl print :).
ReplyDeleteMy hair is also in that in between lenght with a growing out sidecut, nothing can be done with it so I'm thinking of a haircut myself. This haircut looks perfect for your thick and healthy hair.
Thank you! The growing-out phase can be sooo annoying. I went through it once and it was such a nightmare, I've never dared cut my hair short again. :P
DeleteOh, that dress is adorable, both the print and the shape. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with people and their urge to get drastic haircuts? So many people want to change their haircut - or has done so already - and then here I am, for whom cutting a mere 5 centimeters off is beyond drastic already...:) You look lovely, tho', your hair is so beautiful. ^^
Thank you!
DeleteI was stuck in such a style rut (or more accurately, a lack-of-style rut) that I wanted a drastic change. But I've also been in that place where I treasured every centimeter of hair and the thought of cutting 5 cm would terrify me. I suppose it all depends on one's state of mind. :)
Love the fabric, and the dress is darn cute :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteCongrats on finding a way to make dresses that fit your body and your personal style. You look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI struggle with my hair as well, but I like the way this cut looks on you. You're quite pretty and this style really draws attention to your amazing complexion.
You look great!!
Thank you! I'm so glad I finally figured it out, I can't seem to make enough dresses. ;)
DeleteThank you very much!
