Any other day of the year, it wouldn't be a big deal. But on Halloween, the official welcome to trick-or-treaters is the porch light. Even with lights on the house and the walkway, trick-or-treaters might skip my house... leaving me with pounds of candy. Although the thought of keeping all the candy for myself made me momentarily gleeful, sense took over.
IKEA Hemma to the rescue! I ran the light-bulb-on-a-string style cord out through the living room window and placed the bulb inside the broken light fixture. It looked a bit ridiculous, but it served the purpose of luring trick-or-treaters to my lair.

Bulb sitting inside the broken light; cord running in through the window. Classy! :P |
The obvious solution is to get a job so I can give the candy to my new co-workers. :)
At least you made your best to get rid of all the candy. We are the only one in our neighbourhood that do something fun in our garden. But as we live a bit off, no one visits for trick or treating :(. Happy Halloween.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a house that is a bit isolated. It was a new experience for me moving into a more traditional subdivision with sidewalks and neighborhood schools. I like it for the most part, though sometimes I can feel my neighbors staring at me when I'm in the front yard. :P
DeleteGreat idea, very clever of you and IKEA!! And you can always send your leftover candy to us, heheheh!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I have to find someone to give it to, as it's mostly chocolates that I don't really like. I know better than to buy my favorites. ;)
DeleteYay IKEA to the rescue!! No one ever comes to my house since it's on top of a mountain and the little kids don't want to walk all that way. My friend and I did watch some scary movies and eat some candy though so it was fun!
ReplyDeleteI suppose I can't blame them for not wanting to walk up a mountain. ;) Scary movies and candy are a fun Halloween combo!
DeleteI wonder if it's becoming less and less popular these days to go door-to-door trick or treating? We only got two kids. I heard on the radio that all the malls were swamped with people going store-to-store for candy. Seriously? Where's the fun in that?!
ReplyDeleteI'm giving the leftover candy to the youngest to take to her job - if there's any left by the time I get it to her. Who knew I'd like Angry Bird Gummies that much? :P
I think it is becoming less popular. For safety reasons, I suppose. Or maybe parents would rather sip a Starbucks coffee in the mall while their kids run around in a sugar-induced mania.
DeleteMmm, gummies. I like fruit candies better than chocolate (shocking, I know!).
Yay for Ikea! Around where I lived as a kid we never trick or treated, it was a small out of the way neighbourhood and we were usually the only kids.
ReplyDeleteThose light cords are awesome. They're the perfect substitute for the nonexistent overhead lights in my house.
DeleteYou could make leftover candy cookies.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid baking cookies is well beyond my culinary skill, which maxes out at boiling eggs and cooking frozen pizza. I'm basically useless in the kitchen. :P
