After finally achieving dress success with a heavily altered McCall's 6027, I immediately set about making dress number 2. I used a purple spider-print cotton from Hancock Fabrics.
I am really pleased with the fabric. It's higher quality than many novelty cottons, and I love the shade of purple. It's the same color as my bedroom. :D
I've never really worn dresses because of all the fit issues, so wearing a dress is a novel experience for me. The trouble is I don't know how to accessorize. Necklaces? A belt? Boots or shoes?
How would you accessorize this dress?
Egads, yet another super cute dress! I think you've completely won my heart over with this one-- it's super cute and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAs for accessorizing... all of the above, heheh!
I usually spend a while putting things on and off until it finally feels "right"
Thank you! :D
DeleteThat's a smart idea. I should just pull out everything I think might work and play around with it.
I agree with Madame, use ALL of those accessories, either separately OR together! You'll find out what you like and don't like pretty quickly, and the same dress will look totally different with different accessories, so you won't feel like it's "the same old thing" all the time. The only problem is that then you get hooked on accessories! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAccessories can have a major impact. I was pretty good at accessorizing when I wore almost exclusively black. But introducing color and a print into the equation has me stumped. :P
DeleteI got complacent with my accessories while working at an ultra-casual office (where wearing earrings and mascara meant I was more "dressed up" than most people). Enough of that! It's time to dust off the belts and jewelry!
This looks great! I am glad you finally got a dress pattern to fit you! I missed the last one, but it looks great too! I really like the colour of this one too! You look fantastic! I like simple accessorising, so I would just have a necklace, maybe earrings.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I was excited to find a fun fabric in my favorite shade of purple. :)
DeleteI envy your long torso, and I think a wide "corset style" belt would look adorable with this :)
ReplyDeleteHaving a long torso makes it impossible to buy dresses or tops with horizontal seams. I want the waist seam to be on my waist, not my ribcage. I know... picky, picky. ;)
DeleteHowever, it does allow me to wear wide belts. And it means that one of my favorite silhouettes -- snug top + wide belt + full skirt (sort of '50s style) -- works well on me.
Congrats on the new-found dress success! I love this one best so far (because, PURPLE OF COURSE). And it's an awesome added bonus that you can blend into the decor. If someone breaks in, no need to hide! ;D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a belt. The dress looks great without one, but it would break up the pattern and define your waist beautifully for a different look. Of course, I would add a shrug and a long beaded necklace. But I add those to everything! Heavy black pieces would look nice because they would be bold enough to stand out against the print of the dress.
Thank you!
DeleteI had the same idea about being camoflauged against the wall. Though if I ever see that many spiders actually on my wall, I'm outta here. ;)
Thanks for the tips! I have some belts and necklaces I can try. I also have a huge, baggy cardigan that I'm going to alter into a mini cardigan... which is sort of a maxi shrug, I suppose. :)
You could buy a pair of purple laces for those nice boots and I think you'd be accessorized just perfectly! How funny that it really is an excellent match for your wall. :o)
ReplyDeleteI have purple ribbon to replace the orange after Halloween.
DeleteWhat's funnier is I knew the moment I saw the fabric that it was exactly the same color as my walls. I wish I could remember people's names as well as I can remember purples. :P
That pattern is perfect on you! Congratulations! It really shows off your lovely figure. I would wear black boots and a ruched royal velvet scarf with some dark intaglio earrings with that lovely dress to keep it simple and lux.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :) And thanks for the style tip!
DeleteYour dress is a bit similar to the ones I sew. I use to accessorise with a ruffly underskirt, a long or a short necklace, ankle lenght boots.
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks perfect for you and the purple is definitely your colour :)
That's a good idea, the ruffly underskirt.
DeleteThank you! I do love purple. :D
