Pumpkin Time

Autumn is my favorite season. This year, I await it more eagerly than usual because it has been a long, hot summer. I swear I have been continuously hot for three and a half months. :( Enough summer already!

Finally I am noticing a few hints that autumn is on the way. The mornings are cooler. The apples on my tree are nearly ripe. And there are pumpkins!

On a seemingly unrelated topic, I've had this three-tier (what I think is a) plant stand for a while. I painted it black, but it sat empty because I couldn't think what to put in it.

Then it occurred to me... pumpkins!

Little orange and white and stripey pumpkins! They're so cuuute!

Think quick - are pumpkins a fruit or a vegetable? ;)

  1. That's awesome :) I have a black planter too; for years I wanted to repurpose it somehow, and then I realized one day that it's the perfect jack-o-lantern stand!
And to answer your think quick question, fruit! ... at least I think it is...

  2. I think they're considered a fruit, but I consider them to be a vegetable anyway.XD

    1. Yeah, pumpkins have sort of a dual personality. They are a botanical fruit but also a "culinary vegetable." :) Either way, they're fun.

  3. This is so cute!
Yeah we have a horrid summer each year as well. the worst part is that it's almost 4 hot months of summer...

    1. Thanks! I'm originally from the southern US, and summer there is easily 4+ months of humid misery. Hated it! Here it's typically just July and August that are uncomfortably hot. But this year, summer hit hard by June 1 and it's still hot in mid-September. Bleh. :P

  4. Neither fruit nor vegetable - pumpkins belong to the gourd family. I used to think they were a fruit because they have seeds and were edible but no. Gourds they are.

    1. Both your former and your current thinking are right - they're a fruit and they're in the gourd family. :)

  5. That looks fantastic! I bet it would look even better surrounded by fall leaves (fake ones, of course).

    1. Indeed! I tried using a fall leaf wreath that I have on hand, but I couldn't make it work. Some leafy garland should do the trick.

    1. Grab the nearest metal thingy and paint it black! It works for me. ;)

    2. So that's where the coolness and the rain went! We didn't have a bit of either. :(
